MODULE
TWO, WEEK THREE BLOG BOARD.
Being
ethical is doing things right; thus, doing the right thing according to what an
individual is supposed to be doing(Laureate,2013a). Ethics standard in an early
childhood setting should be concerned with the kinds of values and morals the
school finds required and suitable(Northouse,2016). Every
early childhood setting should reflect all the families of children in the
program and the diverse world which they live in because this will create an
atmosphere of acceptance and make them feel respected. I believe that diversity
should include children’s artwork, age-appropriate toys, dolls, books,
magazines, centers, foods, pictures, and musical instruments that represent culture
of every child and family in the program.
As
an administrator in this scenario, I would be go over the Code of Conduct of
the program again and compare it with NAEYC Code of Ethical of Conduct and Statement
of Commitment. There will be a professional development for all staff on the
policy of being a culturally responsive individual. Moreover, there will be
training on multiculturalism and anti-bias curriculum that focus on the problems
of culture and diversity. Immediately, I will instruct the teachers to represent
the culture of all families and the community with age appropriate materials, pictures
of different family types, images that counter prejudice, diversity of sexual
characteristics roles in the classrooms. I will let the staff know that having
a learning environment that celebrates diversity promotes an atmosphere that
foster learners’ positive self-esteem and confidence.
Moreover,
I will send home newsletters about the program Ethical standards on diversity and
there will be opportunity for parents to volunteer and talk about their culture;
also, parents will be encouraged to join the PTO because some parents might
have felt unwelcome due to there culture not be represented very well in the
classrooms and might have developed negative perception towards the administrators.
There will be a meeting with the stakeholders and where they will be allowed to
initiate conversations on cultural differences and do activities about their
cultural differences. Lastly, I will create an unprejudiced and inclusive school
environment.
